I have seen Amal's clothes worn by several women in Oman. But ever since I heard her speaking at the Condé Nast International Luxury Conference, I was more than intrigued by this young yet well established Omani designer and her collections. Her love for Oman, its people and its history is clearly evident through the prints she very carefully choses to the embroidery and embellishments in her garments.
I have been raised in Muscat, Oman my whole life and even though I am Indian by origin, Oman is home for me. Hence I have this deep sense of love and respect towards Omani heritage and culture. Thus imagine my excitement to wear clothes that depict an Omani tale and wonder.
Here's what Amal had to say about her Spring/Summer 2017 collection. 'For Spring/Summer 2017, I became enchanted by the tales of one of the most pivotal moments in Oman's history - It's role in the ancient Silk Route that travelled through one of Oman's most beautiful regions. ' As soon as I entered her boutique in Azaiba, I fell in love with the turquoise and the creamish white hues of this collection, The turquoise and teal hues reflect the dominant colors of the ladies of the Dhofar region. For me it also represented the blue skies and the contrast of the wadi's against the lush tropical greens, I have seen in the Khareef season in Salalah.
Down below you can see an outfit I chose from her SS17 collection. I fell in love with its light silkish crepe fabric which was tailored beautifully to fit my tiny silhouette. Wearing this made me feel powerful yet feminine, strong yet romantic.
Since its Ramadan in Oman, I have also shown two different ways in which you can cover the shoulders. I have styled this sleeveless blouse with a bright pink stole/drape/wrap. You can chose to wear the wrap just over your shoulders or you can tie it at the back (as shown in the pics below) to almost make it seem like a loose kaftan.
For another style, I have paired this delicate sleeveless blouse with a white military jacket to give it stronger edge. I would have loved to pair the culotte with a summer boot but its just too hot in Oman right now to sport that look. If you are traveling to the cooler regions in the summer, that would be an awesome look too.
