I had the opportunity and privilege to attend one of my favorite designer's show at the India Couture Week 2016. Yes you guessed it right - none other than Gaurav Gupta. In magazines like the Vogue and Harpers Bazaar etc, you will find interviews, professional photos etc - However I wanted to let you in and view the show, raw and candid through my eyes, my perspective.
The 5 day design extravaganza brought together by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) which showcased 11 of India's formidable Couturiers like Gaurav Gupta, Tarun Tahiliani, Rohit Bal etc arraying their latest couture collections for 2016. The gala event was opened with Manish Malhotra's 'The Persian Story'.
I had to visit Gaurav's boutique at the DLF Emporio to see the pieces on sale before the new collection came in, the very same night as the Fashion show. Below is what I wore during the day and this was a mandatory elevator selfie.
Gaurav Gupta's Boutique at the DLF Emporio Mall is just a vision in itself. From high industrial ceilings to murals hanging from the air, the store gives one an all round multifaceted sensory experience. I have never loved so many pieces from a particular designer as I am in love with his masterpieces.
For his show that same evening, I decided to wear one of his black one shouldered ruffle dresses. From the fabric, to the fit to the overall look - this dress was a clear winner. I paired this dress with my Louboutins and a LV clutch. The only other two accessories was my ear cuffs and my Bomberg watch.
Walking and posing for photos in this dress, really made me feel so glamorous. That's what all his dresses make you feel.
The runway for Gaurav Gupta's (GG) show titled the 'Scape Song' was highly elaborate, rich and carved to represent the various elements of nature like caves, sea shells etc. From celebrities, designers and the page 3ites, the who and who of the fashion world was present at the show. The show started with exhilarating music that put you in touch with the forces of nature. The lighting, the ambiance, each and every detail of the show was well thought off, crafted and put together. The models couldn't have loved more glamorous even if they tried.
GG is a master in sculpting silhouettes to just caress a woman's body. From high octane embellishments, glamorous detailing and looks that oozed sexines - the 'Scape Song' brought together the various facets and elements of nature in color tones of ecru, ivory, mint greens, english blue, powder blue and red.
Gaurav used the crystal mesh fabric by Swarovski in the masterpiece worn by his showstopper, actress Saiyami Kher who is the debutante star of the upcoming movie Mirziya starring alongside Sonam Kapoor's brother Harshvardhan Kapoor.
Gaurav Gupta's show was a success beyond compare. His creations only keep getting more glamorous and ethereal by the year. Like his store, he managed to give his audience a multi sensory extravagant experience. Whether you are a bride or are just looking for something out of this world to wear, Gaurav will definitely have a piece for you.
He has the best team working for him and I feel blessed to know some of them. From the show to the after party my cousin and I had the best time. Do make sure you check out his flagship stores in Delhi or Mumbai and if you are unable to travel they take orders online. Send me a message and I can put you in touch with someone who can take your order.
