I hosted Onam lunch this year at home, especially being Liam’s first. For ThiruOnam (the big Onam) I wore the traditional Setu Mundu. It is the oldest remnant of a saree in the form of a 2 piece cloth which needs to be draped separately as opposed to a Saree which is a single piece of garment. I will probably post a video later on how to drape a traditional Set Mundu.
A settu Mundu is usually made of hand woven cotton. It is really light and easy to maneuver as compared to a Saree. It is usually worn with a contrast colored blouse. I chose to wear with a emrald green blouse with gold lined borders. Like the Kerala Kasavu Saree, a Settu Mundu is paired with gold jewellery. One usually wears traditional designs even when it comes to jewellery.
